What do you want?

This should be a poll, but I hate polls.

Life should not be multiple choice.

I'm curious to know what you guys want from the business, or what you want for your career.

For instance:

Do you want to be a big rockstar?

Do you just want to earn your living with your music/talent?

Do you want radio stations that only play unsigneds?

Do you want government grants to promote your music?

Do you want more showcase gigs in your neighborhood?

Is making money more important than recognition to you?

Me? I just want to finish my "hotel california", my "frampton comes alive" (a twelve-year project). I'll be distributing my free discs in subways, colleges, phone booths, coffee-houses, etc. Full downloads from the net. Profit is not in my game plan. I just want to share my music, 'cause somebody once said that a song unheard isn't a song at all.

I believe that.

But I want to know what you want.

What I'd really like is to be able to break into the next level, where I can gig in large venues, get paid well, and not sweat the hassles...and then maybe sell a couple songs so I would have an income stream.

I want a million dollars a month, a car and driver, access to a private jet, a home on Martha's Vineyard and one in Sun Valley, a garage full of cars and motorcycles, hordes of adoring fans, parties with A list celebrities, the Mariners to win the world series, and world peace.

Is that asking too much?:D:thu:

Right now I just want to use my musical abilities to support charities and do advertising for my business.

What I want will change next month though, and then I might not know what I want.

When God wants a laugh he gives me what I want instead of what I need. :thu:

On the low end of my desires:

I want to be as comfortable financially via making music that I would be through working a good, secure middle-class job.

On the high end:

I'd like the music to reach an international audience that really enjoys and supports the band. I'd like to tour internationally, especially in Japan and Germany. I'd like to record fully pro CDs (with a high degree of creative control), be signed to a competent label, make artistic/creative videos, and make as much money as humanly possible from it all so I can reinvest it in various endevours to support me and my family for the rest of our days.

Anything in between those two goals would be just fine by me.

I basically want to keep on doing what I have been doing. I play a couple of gigs a month with people I like and admire, in venues that are fun to play. I make enough money to pay for gas, new gear when I want it, plus a little on the side for whatever.

I have a great daytime gig that pays me a decent wage and is relatively fulfilling (I'm in educational administration).

My wife and I are comfortable in our relationship (married 29 years). We do some things together and some things apart by mutual consent. My kids are grown up and I have a couple of grandkids that I can hang out with occasionally.

I figure I'll keep on doing this until I'm in mid-90's (I'm 53 now), then drop dead on stage right in the middle of duckwalking through the second guitar solo of "Johnny B. Goode".

I'd like to be in a band and tour around the world playing a mix of blues, rock, and bluegrass. I'd also like to have a major record label.

I want to play my own songs live to a decent appreciative crowd. That's my realistic target, at least :D
