Members willhaven
Who makes a good one? I'm going to get a Pearl Icon rack (square tubing), so I need something that doesn't necessarily require a round tubular rack. I'm going to have a double kick pedal and I've always had issues in the past with snare stand/stool/pedal interactions, even with rack setups. Opinions would be appreciated. Members willhaven
Also, I'm contemplating getting a remote hi-hat stand so I can position it more directly over the snare. The 9000 series DW remote hi-hat, are they worth a damn? Or do all remote hats suck?
Members 1001gear
Any multi clamp will hold any basket. Never heard of a manufactured assembly though. Seems like bad leverage.
Members willhaven
The clamps look like this, so leverage shouldn't be an issue. At least I hope not.
Members 1001gear
But you gotta fly the snare drum 2 feet out. (?)
Members willhaven
The rack is going to be 3 sided. So it may end up on the left side of the rack. Not quite sure yet.
Members 1001gear
You can look into Tamas Starcast system but getting rack to snare is still a horizontal thing.
Members sirskatealot066
gibraltar makes a no-leg snare stand, but it comes with a round clamp. from the looks of it tho, you could buy a square clamp and it would fit just fine. heres a link. http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/Gibraltar-Rack-Factory-No-Leg-Snare-Drum-Stand?sku=446379
Members 1001gear
I thought this might be appropriate but it's just more linkage to wear out. http://www.tamadrum.co.jp/product/hardware_data.php?id=21&year=2008&area=2 That Gibraltar ^^ looks viable. Members SYMBOLIC
Generally the legless snare stand mount from the legs of the rack, and not the cross bars, so the shape of your cross bar (round or square) shouldn't come in to the equation. That is of course assuming that your aren't 9' tall and need your snare mounted at the average person's chest level.
Members willhaven
Good call on the Gibraltar. It'll definitely work with the Pearl rack. Mounting it from the square tubing would have involved using some telescopic dog bone setup most likely. {censored} that. Thanks guys. Any opinions on the remote hats? Members manoeuver
I've heard the dw remote hats are nice. rack mounted snare is asking for trouble. if your rack fails you'll be left with your bass drum and double pedal. Have fun!!!!
Members Thingfish
Tama Air Ride. L-rod goes to the rack instead of the included stand.
Members Zeromus-X
My only problem with my rack snare stand is that it was such a pain to transport, I didn't bother using it anymore. If I'm gonna spend the time to remove it from the rack, I might as well just use a snare stand. It's sitting in the corner, waiting for me to get an aux snare or something so it has some kind of use. Members sirskatealot066
the dw 9000 remote hi hat stands are nice. they dont feel too tight or loose or anything, and they have a good amount of play so it has the feel of a normal hat. if youre only getting it to your hats can be closer to the snare, i have another gibraltar suggestion. http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/Gibraltar-Hi-Hat-Stand-with-Movable-Leg-Base?sku=448994 the legs rotate so it would be able to accommadate a double pedal, you would be able to position your hats where you want them, and you wouldnt have to worry about the cable from the dw remote one getting in your way. hell if youre using a 3 sided rack you could even take the legs off and mount it. Members willhaven
Ah, damn. I already ordered the DW. It's partly getting the hats closer and partly de-cluttering the area around the pedals. That definitely looks nice though.
Members oldman2
Would not want a rack mounted snare myself. Never liked remote hat. Of course you aren't me and if it works for you then . Do be aware that you will get bad bad bleed if you mic the kit.
Members sirskatealot066
just an odd story sort of related to this, my teacher uses one of those LP compact congas, where its basically just the head. he had it on a snare stand and the legs were always getting in his way so he bought one of those no leg snare stands and put it on his hi hat to hold the conga. i played on his kit after that and let me tell you, that thing is sturdy. it never moved, during playing the hi-hat with the foot or playing the conga. its constructed very well

Members Thingfish
From what exactly? If there is no space between the hats and snare, it is hard to isolate them.
