Well, I took a perfectly good mutt kit and converted it

into the most awesome gig kit I ever wanted.

Late 60s Luddy basketcases rescued off eBay and wrapped

in my favorite. Jammin Sam Mod Orange!

Sizes: 8x12, 14x14, 14x22.

Well actually, I sold the WMP tom in the picture to Chunkaway (too nice to

cut) and replaced it with this tom that actually was in a fire and wrap burned

off (thanks Jerry Nolan). Has a nice warm sound :D

FT had wrap stripped off. They didn't bother to remove HW.

Spray painted black - even the lugs. BD had huge crack in wrap

and stripped of HW. Nice original Supra though.

That looks great. Looks like one of those games you see in mags: Find 10 things different in these 2 pictures.

I love the hot looks and warm tone comments:facepalm:

Actually, I keep a spreadsheet on all this stuff.

Drums were around $500. Wrap was $250.

My wife bought the wrap for Christmas last year - sweet huh?

There are definitely some tricks here.

Heat gun is a must for removing old wrap, but DO NOT go over 275.

Those old wraps burn and they burn quick.

Keep a wet towel handy and GO SLOW.

Don't mess with the seam. Just get a dremel tool and trim it.

Wrap right over the remnant.

Great job idrum! Are all the shells the same era? 3ply with white resocoat interiors? Did you repaint the interior on the rack tom? Jerry N is a great guy, glad he could help you out.

That Jammin' Sam mod orange looks like the same stuff they are using on the new Ludwig Element SE kits. Have you seen one of those kits up close? I'd be interested in a confirmation on that.

Thanks Loss.

The BD and FT are white inside.

I did not mess with painting the rack.

This is a gig kit, not a resto.

I do have a coated ambassador on the bottom though

Cleaned up nice. I might paint the inside later on for kicks.

I noticed the same thing about the wrap.

I have not seen the Element SE kits closeup.

I thought about asking Sam. I plan to call him tomorrow

to give him propers on his great wrap and advice.

Yeah - Tom at Jerry Nolans was great at answering questions

about the drum. He even knew the story about the kit catching fire.

Loss - The shells are all late 60s. 3-ply w/ rings.

Badges are 477xxx-603xxx range.

Outer plies are mahogany.

Thought the 12 was stained, but the shell under the wrap

under the lugs is about the same color. The photo is a little dark.

Drums sound great btw.

Man, that would be a lot cheaper than getting a brand new kit, and it would pretty much be custom...

Yep.

I wanted the exact sizes I have and it took a while.

Also, I did not want to strip a drum with a wrap in good condition.

Don't believe in that.

The original tom went to Chunkaway for his kit

and I was very happy about that. I just could not cut that drum.
