Members AllanGuy
I got a Tama Metalworks 5.5 x 14 inch snare today. It sounds pretty good. It came with an evans power center reverse dot on it, but the clerk gave me an evans g1 head. Do you think I should switch the heads on it? Members satman
do you like the way it sounds ?if so i would leave it as is and hold onto the other head for a backup 0.
Members D Carroll
The g1 is a great head, but the reverse dot is easier to tune. I would personally go for the g1, but they are both good heads.
Members AllanGuy
Well, it has a tiny bit of a ring with the reverse dot, which in this case sounds better than if i put a moongel on it. I think I will probably keep the reverse dot on it and put the g1 on it when the head gets old.
Members cearleywine
that's a good m.o. I'd much prefer the g1, but if it sounds decent you may as well wear it out.
Members dmilwain
If it sounds fine and you enjoy it, then just hold onto the other one until you need a replacement. Save yourself some $$

Members danrothmusic
I use a reverse dot on my snares, I think they sound great. Then again, G1's are good on toms (I've never played one on a snare). Just try it, though, it's not like it's tough to switch back
Members louied78
On the G1 subject, what is the tuning secret? My Gretsch came with a G1 and I could not get the sound I wanted. I put the Genera dry off my Tama on it and it was much easier to tune. The genera is thouroughly broken in though so maybe that is the difference. I have always heard the G1 is a great head but I didn't like it as much. Maybe I was too impatient with the initial tuning.
