Members LoC Posted March 25, 2007 Members Posted March 25, 2007 A 1970's Ampeg SVT V9 with 14 tubes at 300w or a late 1990's/early 2000's SVT-II Pro?
Members dragon9666 Posted March 25, 2007 Members Posted March 25, 2007 If both are mint, the '70's head.
Members jonathan_matos5 Posted March 25, 2007 Members Posted March 25, 2007 id rather not have ampeg:p
Members 82Daion Posted March 25, 2007 Members Posted March 25, 2007 The SVT-II Pro and the V-9 will have close to the same tube quotient and the same power rating, if that helps. I'd go for the BOALG option and get a non-Pro SVT-II.
Members FreestyleIntruder Posted March 25, 2007 Members Posted March 25, 2007 The 70's one Then I'd sell it and buy a load of studio stuff
Members sultan417 Posted March 25, 2007 Members Posted March 25, 2007 Neither, i dont like old equipment because you have generally have to baby it more and i dont like the SVT-II. Ill take a new SVT-CL.
Members LoC Posted March 25, 2007 Author Members Posted March 25, 2007 What's the biggest difference between the V9 and SVT-II as both are all tube?
Members LoC Posted March 25, 2007 Author Members Posted March 25, 2007 Anyone else? Is is because of the vintage tone of the 70's model? Is there a difference in punch, clarity, bottom end?
Members FreestyleIntruder Posted March 25, 2007 Members Posted March 25, 2007 It's old, so it must be better
Members Thumper Posted March 25, 2007 Members Posted March 25, 2007 '70s SVT 'cause I love old tube amps for bass.
Members oldivor Posted March 25, 2007 Members Posted March 25, 2007 Where is no such thing as a SVT "V-9", it says SVT/V-9 on the power amp because the the V-9 and the SVT models shared the same power amp design. So they put SVT/V-9 on the power amps. There IS a different in between the V-9(guitar amp with distortion) and the SVT(bass amp with no distortion). That being said I own a SVT "V-9". It's a 78 SVT.
Members LoC Posted March 25, 2007 Author Members Posted March 25, 2007 Oh yeah, how much would you be willing to pay for each, in a used but fully functional condition with minor aesthetic blemishes.
Members LoC Posted March 26, 2007 Author Members Posted March 26, 2007 Heh, yeahhh. What would you pay for that?
Members 82Daion Posted March 26, 2007 Members Posted March 26, 2007 Heh, yeahhh. What would you pay for that? You can usually pick one up for under $1000 if you're careful.

Members oldivor Posted March 26, 2007 Members Posted March 26, 2007 hey! hows that old thing treating you? It works like a charm. Sadly thought I can't bring it to college, but when ever I go home it gets some loving.
