but, why is protecting AIG bonus contracts more acceptable than protecting IAW (UAW?) contracts? Union bustin' was one of the stipulations of bailing out Detroit.


I think congress critters shouldn't be messin' with contract law.


I'm non-union by the way.

 

 

One big difference is that the union contracts effect the future wages/compensation of the worker whilst this idea is the government stealing money from employees that have already earned it. This is a grandfather tax not known to those who agreed to work for a certain level of compensation, completed their end of the bargain, and BAM!, the Government confiscates a huge part of their compensation after the fact. As far as changing already earned retirement benefits of auto workers, I agree. They can negotiate but the union should be under no obligation to comply with any mandate that effects previous benefits already earned.

Passed! The government can now fairly and justly regulate our salaries and compensation though judicious and efficient taxation! WOOHOO! TAKE THAT YOU RICH BASTAGES! I'm glad I'm poor!
