Members bnyswonger
Jazz basses don't have the thick low mids that P basses do. The end.
Members sub5ound
Would I still be able to get a good slap or burp tone with a a stacked or a split coil design? I am new to them in a jazz configuration.
Members sub5ound
...and if so, who makes the better ones?
Members Cpt. Spliff
Those aren't the Antiquity pups right? My tech said not to get those for what I'm looking for. Nope. The SJB 1 Vintage.
Members Mudbass
I think Noel Redding's tone had a lot more to do with the wall of Marhsalls stacked behind him than the pickups in his bass.
Moderators Kindness Posted March 29, 2009 Moderators Share Posted March 29, 2009 Would I still be able to get a good slap or burp tone with a a stacked or a split coil design? I am new to them in a jazz configuration. If you can't, I'd say don't blame the pickup (or bass, amp, cabinet, etc.). It took me a long time to learn that lesson when I started playing. Members Thumper
My guitard suggested BASSLINES and he knows his {censored} and sets up my basses. I'm open to them, but are they potted? I dont like my pups to say anything on them. Any help:confused: I've got Fender Noiseless Jazz pups in my '62 Jazz reissue. They sound about as vintage as you can get. A little AAA steel wool will remove the logo nicely. Just mask off the pole pieces with masking tape, otherwise they'll get a bit fuzzy.
Members fretless
Noel used a pick just for the record Jimi was a much better bassist as was Billy Cox
Members sub5ound
There's no question that Billy Cox was a better bassist. I know he used a pick.
Members sub5ound
Noel Redding was just the best reference for 60's rock jazzbass I could think of at the moment.
