Members Cliff Fiscal
Can anyone describe or post a sample of P bass tone? It's the only type of bass I really don't have in my collection.
Members Thumper
All P's are not equal, but that doesn't mean you need a Fender. Yep. There are companies that make better P-basses than Fender. Lakland comes to mind, and some of the '80s MIJ clones from Tokai, Ibanez etc are superior. Most of them came from the Matsumoku factory. Members ezstep
Used G&L SB-1. Speaking as a guy who had a Precision and the SB-1, it's worth the search.
Moderators Kindness Posted January 30, 2010 Moderators Share Posted January 30, 2010 http://www.lakland.com/ac_glaub.htm I don't think the "GAS KING" should get a P. Members PuppyKicker
Really? Pics? yep. It's a sunburst Highway 1 p bass. Got it used in really good shape for $499 with a gig bag. Plays great. Just gotta change out the white pg for a black or tort guard. no pics yet. Gotta get some later.
Members pbass_groovin
If you can afford it get a Lakland. Otherwise get an SX and mod the crap out of it.

I'd love a 5 string P, but I'm not going to take a chance on the Fenders....... An SX wouldn't be bad, but I had a SX guitar neck that I absolutely hated! Members PuppyKicker
Wow, that's a really good deal. Do you have a bass amp yet? Yeah, I'm pretty happy about it. I've got an old peavey 410tx cab and a GK backline 600 head. no the greatest rig, but it sounds pretty decent for the little $$ in spent on it. Members PuppyKicker
I ain't no snob. Glad you're enjoying your tone! neither am I. the only change I really want to make, right now, is either get a new cab or a second 8ohm cab. The head is 300w at 4ohms. My cab is 8.
