Nothing against them, but I had heard how great they are, and it didn't live up to its reputation. I sold it and purchased a 1982 Fender MIA Precision. Awesome bass! Members Jazzneck Posted December 1, 2011 Members Share Posted December 1, 2011 Not really a Ric fan, gave 'em a shot a few times and wasn't for me, but the first blue 4001's ones I saw at the stores really knocked me out way back when. The only Rics I'd seen were like mine, red, and mine was a little worn. The new blue ones looked slick, racy, almost excotic. So I'd pick that, same neck, same stereo feature, same checker binding as mine but maybe a varitone and a master tone versus the two tone controls.
