That's the thing about this toaster oven: the outer casing is metal and when the toaster heats up on the inside, it also heats up the outside casing. If I tried to pick it up with it on, I would get burned worse than if I were to pull the rack out with my bare hands. It actually has a special grabber that hooks onto the rack to pull it out without getting burned, but in my mental state, it took me a good five minutes to figure out how to use it.
