I got Pwned

Well apparently I really was the asshole. I just stumbled today on the ad on craigslist to replace me and the singer. I know, I know... many of you guys told me to leave pronto when I spoke of the issues with the bassist, drummer....

I'm pretty pissed, not that I didn't expect this, I totally did. I'm pissed that they didn't even have the balls to tell me or the singer that they moved on without us. For two weeks, all we've heard is excuses for canceled practices. What a couple of pussies.

I guess the rest of this thread you guys can post the "I told you so" replies.

Didn't you say that the singer was the only one out of those guys that was any good? Sounds like a positive to me, you two can now find a non-arsehole rhythm section and laugh at your former one's attempts to find anyone of any ability to play with,

Good luck

yep. The singer kicks ass. The drummer was good when he wasn't falling down drunk or stoned, which was pretty maybe once since I've known him and the bassist, well.. he was a legend in his own mind.

Frankly I don't know what to do with the singer... he's an extremely talented young guy, I have side projects to fall back on, but he doesn't. Guess I will see if we can find new people, but it's going to be tough for a while. I kind of feel sorry for him. I've been in a few bands that disentigrated over the years, but I don't think he's ever really been a part of that until now.

Two words for you: Drum machine
:thu:

uggg.. I have one, it's not bad, but still sounds artifical, not so much the tone of the drums, but the 'perfect timing', and programming a realistic velocity on each tap takes forever ... I was discussing that in the recording forum not long ago.

At least you read about it in advance, I guess. I've had guys up and quit without any warning at all. I think that is almost worse in some ways.

Not really, I've been getting 'canceled practice' excuses for 2 weeks. Turns out that I was just no longer invited. They could have told me...

Just goes to show how spineless some people are.

Yep, sounds like it's all for the best. Take the singer and find a new rhythm section that aren't idjits. :thu:

I wouldn't say you got pwn3d at all. They did you a favor - other than the spineless way they did it, of course, but that should just make you doubly glad you don't have to deal with them anymore.

Oh well, they are not for everyone. My one tip (think i've probably said it before on this forum) would be not to try and make it sound like a real drummer, think of it more as its own rhythm instrument. You can make some interesting backing patterns if you are not thinking like a drummer...

I felt bad about putting up a craigslist add for an electronic project where I hadn't invited anyone in my band until I found an add from my drummer for a vocalist for his new project.

-Your old bandmates basically want new bandmates who won't get pissed at them for being degenerates. I'd say respond to the craigslist add with a "good luck with your new project" email and move forward.

the last project i was jammin with kinda ended up on the same kind of note. The band had been going through lead singers like cord wood, The last one was really good but also played really good lead guitar. They turned him over too, I had said i would give it a few more sessions to see if we could pull it out of the tail spin.

Well the guys decided to audition a new lead singer and didnt tell me about it. The drummer spilled the beans.

The big issue. They were using my PA and trying to cut me out of the loop on this singer thing. When i called them on it ,, the one guys said they didnt wanna waste my time. I loaded out the pa on them the next day. They are still floundering. The leader got a little snotty ,, i just ingored that and kept loading out the gear. lol. Oh well at least they didnt break anything. They pulled the ultimate sin. .. you dont cut a guy out of the loop and expect to use his gear. Thats what kids try , not adults.

It was no big deal since i was on my way out of that project ,, ,i had been pushing them to get their volume under control ,, it wasnt happeneing.

Rhat, I know you are an up-front guy, I'm shocked this happens as often as it does.

Now I can't get either of them to return my calls, or emails about picking up my gear. I don't have much there, I thankfully got most of my pricey stuff out before this all went down, but I know they are using a few items and I'm guessing that they don't want to give it back. It would really be juvenile for them to take it to the next level. I don't want to have to take them to small claims for the value of this stuff (maybe $400-$500 worth of gear). But I will if I have to.

Just call them up and say when is a good time to come get the gear. Take someone with you to help you load it out. Its good to have someone to watch your back.

Dont take any {censored} and dont let them rip you off. When this leader started acting like a snot ,, i didnt let it get to me ,, i just kept loading. If worse comes to worse ,, show up at midnight to load out with a cop escort.

Wow.................

I don't feel so bad now about getting an e-mail from the last band I was fired from. It turned out to be the best thing that ever happened to me musically - I started my own band and life is good now.

Letting you find out by looking through Craigslist was pretty frikkin' low, man....................

They wont answer the phone. They wont return the calls, messages, emails.

Am I reading right that they've punted you, are avoiding contact AND are holding your gear?

Leave them 2 more messages - 1 voice message and 1 email message. In as friendly a voice you can muster - tell them you hope their new project is coming together. Then let them know that you need to pick up your gear. Tell them that you've left numerous messages - but are concerned by the fact that you haven't received a response yet and can't help but think they're intentionally avoiding you. Tell them all you want is your gear - and then tell them how much you'd hate to have to file police reports and pursue legal action to retrieve your gear - and that you hope to hear from them within the next 24 hours to arrange to pick it up.

That's why when I played with other musicians I never left any of my gear at all...If I were you I wouldn't put up with that for a minute. It seems to me that if you've already tried contacting them and they've ignored you that it's time to just show up when you know they will be home and retrieve your gear. The longer you wait the more chance one of the members will take some or all of your gear away from where it is now.
