The Hallowed Halloween Gig

We'll be playing at McCarthy's Ale House in downtown Cleveland. We actually got tonight's gig as a make-up when they bumped us earlier in the month - and we are back there next weekend too! :thu:

I am not a big fan of dressing up, but I grin and bear it. The biggest hassle is coming up with a costume that you can still actually play in.

AustinCowbell does make one great point - Halloween seems to be open season for all the ladies to dress like whoooares!

Ours is a glorified drinking contest - and although not "expected", us dressing up for a halloween gig and acting like dip{censored}s just kinda fits. And nobody has ever given us any grief in the past for not costuming up either - but if it makes it that much more fun for us (and everyone else) to do so...

No kidding.

I have not been out for Halloween in a while, and even tho I am not gigging I am really looking forward to getting out tonight all goofy lookin...I mean whats not to love about feeling like your 10 years old again and dressing up and having fun?

Of course I didn't drink (nearly) as much when I was 10. :D

At last night's show my {censored}ing feather boa attacked me. At first it was content to just get in the way of my guitar playing but somehow it wrapped itself around my afro wig and I couldn't see anything out of my left eye so I was fine with open chords but for one song any time I got up past the 7th-8th fret it was 50/50 that I'd play the wrong note. Hopefully I can make it out of tonight's show with a more cooperative boa. And if there are hot girls dressed like whooooares I'll post pics on Sunday or Monday. We're going to somehow trick them into having a cowbell dance contest onstage. It'll be epic.

I asked the manager if we should dress up and she told me that that is strictly taboo. According to her, orientals refuse to celebrate Halloween, considering it demonic.

.

Really? I have never heard this before.

All I know is I have seen those creepy Dragon things and they look pretty demonic to me!

Sorry, but I don't play gigs just for the money. I won't intentionally book a gig unless I think I'm going to have fun.

That's probably because nobody's offering you much money. Give it a few years and maybe someone will offer you enough money to do a no fun gig. I'm doing a gig sat-I have no idea if anyone will be in costume and I don't care. They may be chicks or not. I hope so, but I'm not getting laid there because I have a wife at home, so chicks or not-doesn't really matter. I won't be wearing a costume. I won't get drunk. I will be playing mostly my own music with great musicians and for two sets, I'll make over 500.00

Fun would be nice too, but it will be fun cashing that check.

I used to be in a band with a guy who gaged the sucess of any gig by if he got drunk, beat someone up, and got laid. He grew up. If you last long enough, your views may change.

Fair enough Pat. I'd guess the kinds of places you play vs where we do have a slightly different atmosphere. Nothing wrong with either.

Tonight I'm bringing my motorcycle chaps and a banana hammock just in case....

Hey, captain assumption, we might not get $2000-$2500 for EVERY gig, but for a private party thats about what we get and we make as much or more than probably 80% of bar bands in the city for our regular shows. And if I -ever- "grow up" to the point where I no longer want to get laid, kill me.

We are playing the Halloween party at one of the largest clubs in the area tonight. I heard they've already taken 400 reservations. I'm taking my costume with me to put on AFTER the load-in and sound-check.

The band (in other words ME as the front man) are in charge of MC'ing the Costume Contest. I don't look forward to that, but otherwise it should be a fun night.

Who said anything about not wanting to get laid? Believe me, if your still gigging after more than thirty years, you will still want to get laid by hot women at your gig. "Want to" is the key phrase.

As far as my assumptions, didn't you introduce your self to this board by bragging that you were paying to play in LA? Anyone who'd do that I'd assume isn't making much scratch gigging. Forgive me if I'm wrong Austin. So, you get top dollar for having fun and get laid? Good on ya.

We (the Unmentionables) are playing at Wild Wings in Athens tonight and yes we are (kind of ) dressing up in overalls for that "Deliverance" look. We had a great time on Halloween last year in Augusta at the Firehouse and just like others have mentioned, it was great to see everyone in costumes and having fun. the high point of the night was when our drummer called out to a girl dressed as Elvis: "Hey Elvis, I want to suck your dXXX."

And there we go.... YOU said that YOUR friend grew out of "wanting to get laid". I don't have the time nor inclination to quote everything you said but it was your assertion, not mine. Further, I became the de facto poster child for PFP before our Viper Room show. The result of our viper room show was 162 tickets sold online and via myspace and another 40 sold at the door. Without going into the math, I'll hazzard a guess that there aren't a lot of no-name out of town bands getting 200 people to the viper room for a double length (125 minute) set AND getting paid pretty well for it. The fact that you bitterly equate fun with unprofitability is disappointing to say the least.

Bands are all off. I'm going to watch my favorite Stones tribute. I'll bring a wig that I used in one of my bands just in case I have to have costume to get in. I don't dig dressing up either so I'm going to leave it in the car in case I need it. Chicks dressed as hookers? Yeah!

One could say the same thing about your zeal to equate anyone not wanting to dress up for Halloween as needing a couple years off to think about it. That's assuming a lot too, isn't it?

I'm just sayin'.

It's a great big stupid world.

Have fun tonight and be safe!

We're playing at the same club we did last year for Halloween, Charlie Brown's Bar and Casino.

I went as Ozzy Osbourne in 2007. Went over great and was lots of fun! But I'm pretty sure that tonight I will be the only person in the band dressed up as something, just like last year. Buncha party-poopers. :p
