So, what is the little keyboard that she's playing on Conan? You know, the thing that's
sitting on a music stand on stage!

Dunno... Couldn't get a good enough look at it to see what it was. It was cute and red though.

But DUH....it's no longer a music stand when you turn it around backwards and put a keyboard on it. Now it's a KEYBOARD stand! :poke:

Watched a concert on TV recently, thought it was jive, she talked for about 20 minutes about how she went on a year long journey to write a song, the audience of yuppies was enthralled, and then they started in with some cheesy crap, I would have walked out, not good music IMO.

Is it just me or do the verses of this tune sound like you could sing "Turn Me Loose" over them?

Brian V.

Nope, it's not just you. I heard Loverboy too. Happens to the best of 'em though. I've heard a Dio song that sound like "Cat Scratch Fever" and a Prong song that sound like "The Breakup Song".

Great band. Unfortunately their dated sound prevents them from getting quite the massive public appeal they probably deserve. ......

I saw them open for Government Mule at the Ryman. This was before their commercialism attempt and they were still in full Earth Mother mode. They sounded GREAT! GP played a LOT of B3, GOOD B3, as well as guitar on a flying V. Then later on I saw the video of the song "Paris" and I wasn't sure it was the same band. Someone made the decision to try to appeal to the masses and it really hasn't worked very well. If GP wants to be the next Christina Aguilera she needs to drop the band and learn to dance, quit playing keys on stage and drop about 10 pounds. If she wants to have a long lasting career ala Gov't Mule or Susan Tedeschi she needs to do a complete turnaround. Trying to do both isn't working IMO.

Eh..even being from Vermont, I'm not into her music or really that style of music at all in the first place. Claim to fame though would be my bassist went to high school with her. Don't think he actually knew her though since she was a couple grades ahead of him.

grace brings a new dimension to the term. she has grace and poise that is rare. I saw her and the band on Guitar Center Sessions. The band was 100%, but the interview with Grace was the treat to me, she is a no bull {censored} person and is a real musician and i really respect what she brings to the stage, really no Grace and there is no band, just Grace, she is still the bomb.

I think there' a huge spot there just for the taking. The one that Sheryl has meandered out of. But she needs to show she is an actual musician more and she has to have "songs" Sheryl definitely had special songs and a ton of them.

Maybe. The problem with Sheryl's spot is it was 20 years ago. Remember that Sheryl started out by selling pop songs to young kids that got played on Top 40 radio. I just don't see that happening with Potter. And Sheryl sounded new and fresh at the time. Potter sounds like classic rock. And yeah, I don't think her songwriting is that strong. Great singer/great band, but I don't the material really matches up. Which again, indicates a move to Nashville might be the thing. There's a radio station here that plays her stuff and plays a lot of stuff by newer artists I'd call "adult rock" for lack of a better term. Problem is, it doesn't really seem to translate into a lot of record sales or concert ticket sales for those artists. They'll come through town and nobody much shows up. Older fans will listen and talk about how they like this or that new artist but they don't really do much in way of support.

Sheryl also started out writing songs for her solo stuff with Kevin Gilbert, Bill Bottrell, and David Baerwald. Those are some cream-of-the-crop, crazy talented folks.

I don't know who Grace Potter works with, but from what I've heard, her songwriting is not in that league, IMO.
