QSC RMX1450 into one Yamaha S12ME: should I run mono or bridged??

I only have one speaker right now for my mains. (I have a powered monitor). I will buy a second speaker soon. In the meantime should I run out one of the RMX1450's channels 280w into the speaker or should I go bridged into the speaker? Will it hurt a speaker to pump a lot of extra watts into it even if you keep the volume level down?? Thanks!

QSC RMX1450 power amp's specs are:

8 ohms EIA 1 kHz 0.1% THD @ 2x 280W

Bridge Mono Mode

8 ohms EIA 1 kHz 0.1% THD @ 900W

Yamaha S12ME speaker specs are:

Power Rating (program/peak): 250/500 Watts

Impedance: 8 ohms

If you keep the volume level way down, you aren't pumping extra watts through it. That said,if you run it in mono(especially into a lowend speaker like that)you are one small mistake away from a fried speaker or high driver.
