Members RoboPimp
When the drummer asks for some SNARE in their monitor? in a SMALL bar? Holy heck I think that is an indication that the stage volume is a little loud! Or is that something you pro guys do all the time?
Members flanc
I'm not a pro...but I've been gigging for a number of years and I would tend to agree that the stage volume must be pretty loud or the drummer is pretty deaf to need a snare in his monitor. Members RoboPimp
well, sorry for the stupid post but this guy starts to get on my nerves. He's one of those guys that keeps asking for a little bit more of everything in his monitor... "can I get a little more bass" "I need some more guitar" "more keyboards" "Hey soundman, can I get more of my kick in the monitor" "Some more lead vocal" "A little more of my vocals please" "More kick" "can I get some snare in my monitor, I can barely hear it" wow, I basically turn one thing up and turn something else down, obviously I can't just keep turning it all up. His monitor was loud enough to carry the whole room!

Members RoboPimp
Is that a "more volume makes us sound better" comparison? well I feel bad because I think this drummer is a nice guy and he's not rude at all or anything, but there's just so much you can put through a monitor... Plus this was in a small, reflective room and my gloating the other day about feedback was coming back to haunt me, I started getting that "ghost" creeping around notes, but I managed to take it out with a few notches on the EQ. Members TimmyP
With most drummers I don't need snare in the house about 1/2 the time (and I mic everything). Snare in the drum monitor? No way! He definitely needs in-ears.
Members agedhorse
Depends on the gig and how the drummer plays. If the drummer had controlled dynamics, snare in the drum box can help gauge the attack and sound better and improve comfort level. Outside, I'd say 90% of my drum mixes have a little snare.
