Members ckcondon
I'm curious about the audible volume difference of a certain scenario (monitors). I'm thinking of using my old Mackie 1400i with some Yamaha clubV 12's to replace our insanely heavy Behringer powered 300w 15's. The amp is rated at 300w/ch @ 8ohms and 500w/ch @4 ohms If I run 1 - 8ohm cab on each side they each get 300w. if I put the same 2 cabs on one channel they get 250w ea @4ohm correct? How discernible is the volume difference? I'm mainly curious if it's practical to consider ever running 2 cabs off one channel and a third from the other. I currently just run 2 wedges up front since I use in-ears, but if I ever run sound for another band, the drummer will need a wedge. I know I could use one of the Behrs, but I'm ready to retire them to garage-install rehearsal duty! Thanks gang!
Members tlbonehead
Doubing of power or halving the power usually equates to a 3 db difference roughly. Losing 50 watts from 300 to 250? Maybe 1/4-1/2 db? Probably won't notice it at all.
Members Square
You can run 2 boxes off one channel and 1 box on the other and I would be very surprised if you could hear a difference in terms of output between the 3 boxes.
Members agedhorse
Close enough to doubling of the amp's power into 4 ohms, especially when considering the dynamic nature of the signal. I suspect the difference won't even be easily measureable because the spec's are for continuous sine wave power and the monitors are seeing music. Members ckcondon
That's why I love this place! I figured as much. The third box would be getting a different mix anyway and be located away from the other 2, so a little variation would be OK. Thanks guys. Members Ear Abuser
250 vs 300 =0.79 dB10 log (250/300)=0.79close enough to inaudible for most purposes
