Members Ryan.
I know you guys always say wait and see what you'll need. But I'm just curious based on your experiences... If you had a rack with 2 units left. You've already got a MixWiz in it with 2 DBX 231s in it. What would fill up the rest of the space? A compressor... a gate... a keg of beer...? Members Ryan.
Rack blanks, use the space as cable storage. Not very effective for cable storage. We've got the big plastic tubs for that.

Do you unplug all of your power and signal cables from the rack components and store them in your "tubs"?
Members Ryan.
Sounds like you know the answer. http://pro-audio.musiciansfriend.com/product/dbx-1046-Quad-Compressor-Limiter?sku=183550 ? So much money. I need to start playing less music and playing more golf.
Members Ryan.
Do you unplug all of your power and signal cables from the rack components and store them in your "tubs"? No, the mixwiz case is big. The DBXs only go back half way so there is plenty of space where power/signal cables go.

Members boomerweps
IF you MUST buy stuff to fill up the space: The TC Electronics C300 compressors are nice and easy to operate. Can often be had used for $100 or a little more with shipping. And/or a dedicated FX unit. OR pickup a cheap used 2RU rackmount single CD player for break music ;>) Boomerweps
CMS Author Craig Vecchione Posted September 1, 2010 CMS Author Share Posted September 1, 2010 Just wait. If you buy something you *might* need, you won't have room for something you later *will* need, and you've of course just wasted money on either the may-need thing, or the rack you've got now. Members Ryan.
I don't plan to buy anything, I just wanted to research some of the things I may need in the future. I know how to say compressor... but I have no idea what it does.
Members twostone
I don't fill empty spaces, I fill needs. What do YOU need? Same here, I got 3 empty spaces that's been empty for the past 4 years now and I figured I'll leave it empty for ventilation purpose. Most of the time my rack goes to the side of stage right by the wall outlets so I can plug my monitor amp directly into the wall outlet. Since I mix off stage. Members KF650SB1000
what else is in the rack? I like the dbx 1046 and 1074 for compact spaces. The Presonus ACP88 is a good unit also.
Members Ryan.
Read up ftp://ftp.dbxpro.com/pub/PDFs/WhitePapers/Compression%20101.pdf HAHAHAHA, reading about one just makes me WANT one! This thing is awesome. But I don't get how you would know when you need a compressor. From the description I could say I need one right now. It would make life easier on me, especially with my singer being as dynamic as he is. But I get along okay without it... So master Yoda... when will I know I'm ready? The only things in my rack are 4 channels of EQ and the MixWiz. Oh and a headphone amp cause I had no where else to put it.

What's in my FOH rack? power stripdbx 1074 quad gateTC-E M-ONE (verb)Yamaha SPX-90 (delay)dbx 1231 (FOH EQ)3U rack drawer The 1066 would be nice, but I don't NEED compression. The gates come in very handy, and I like having verb and delay... but those aren't "essential".
Members Ryan.
Well what if I WANT compression... I mean determining need is tough... if you walked up to me and said... out of all your gear what do you NEED... I'd say my guitar and amp.
