Members Goosa
I found a 1968 Sunn 1200S head on Craigslist for $650 in good condition. It's got four knobs and no reverb circuit, same as the amp below. Is it a good buy? What are its strengths and weaknesses? What's it worth if I decide to sell it? Members WRGKMC
First off I'd ask, do you need a tube head that's 120W. For a tube head that's really friggin loud. No overdrive, no effects loops, no reverb, just loud. The head like most Sunn o amps will take pedals well. If it needs tubes it will likely cost you close to $200 to change them all out and an amp that age will likely need to be recapped if it hasn't been done. Sunn does have a unique tone like no other amp. If vintage tone is what you want, that's what you'll get with that one. Make sure you have a cab that can handle the power. Unlike other companies, Sunn underestimated their power ratings. This one is likely closer to 150W.
Members Mikeo
Don't know if this is info you are interested in, but Anyway that's a lot of amp. Kinda predates good PA gear. http://richbriere.com/?page_id=18 file:///C:/Users/a10001127/Downloads/sunn-1200s-amplifier-schematic.pdf
Members drumhead57
I got mine for $50.00, great amp. Not a lot of information out there on it. Anyone have a schematic for this beast?
