You're in a different world DAW-wise, than me. I've been using Cakewalk products all along except for about a year on Logic when Logic still ran on PCs. Eons ago, now. There were about three years on a Roland VS-1680 (which I still have in the closet). Trade you the 1680 for the Roland Stage Piano he he he.

 

Are your synth parts all Reason? You have a good feel for synth stuff - I'd like to hear more.

 

What's your master plan, musically? Not really assuming you have one, but if you do.....

Sorry for the super-delayed response, Nat, was on vacation.

I love Reason for the tweakability and the whole rack metaphor. I use it for everything, synths, samples, recording. If anything it's *too* tweakable...I often find myself messing around for hours playing the same major 7th chords over and over on different synth patches. Not productive.

 

My master plan is lousy and needs work because I can't seem to release any music. smile.png Hoping to release a Port Streets record with my friend this year, debating doing an EP or finishing a couple more songs for a complete record. My challenge is I keep tweaking and never finishing stuff. Would love to make more money from writing songs. A number of the songs are quite close. What are you up to?

 

Glad to be here, grateful for you guys, just wish I was more productive. Can anyone help walk me through releasing an EP? :)

So cool. Different keys definitely have different vibes. The ones above are my favorite keys, although that's not what Db Major sound like (leering!). True fact: "Friday I'm in Love" is in between D and Eb...so is that 'triumphant love'?

1) Finish the songs

2) Sign up for something like CDBaby or Tunecore for distribution

3) Get artwork done

4) Develop bio material and such things

5) Scour the internet for blogs and such that you like so you can send your EP in for reviews

6) Don't skimp on mastering

Thanks, Justin, that helps actually -- thinking about getting someone to mix as well. Want someone who has done credible indie rock/so has modern aesthetic but not crazy credits. Really don't want to mix myself, and willing to invest in the right person or give points, etc. You guys have heard my boy/girl Ports Streets stuff, any similar modern indie bands with a similar vibe? Every person I research seems way too big,..

Two small tweaks and the mastering is done for Drowned Cicadas! Once I get the artwork, I'll post some of the tracks on soundcloud in anticipation of the release.

 

Nice. Just sent off a single for mastering mixed and I'd say co-produced by Lee Knight.

Martin you'd have to email for exact costs but abbey road do mixing and mastering. Mastering seems to start at £90 and mixing is dependant on what you need exactly.

 

You can read about the mastering engineers there and see if they interest you.

 

May be out of your budget but worth a look at their site
