Members kooki_sf
anyone know if there is a difference in terms of cpu load between vst and AU effects? like running an identical effect on both systems, which one would be friendlier to my processor? Members Analog Kid
AU should have an advantage, since its basically built into the system and VST is basically a patch over the system. I dunno other than that.
Members The Audacity Works
VST still has better automation functionality. I use TDM and AU in Logic (because Logic on OSX doesn't support VST) and VST in Peak.

Members cybermooks
If you are using a Mac AU is really the best possible choice as it is system level. The only reason you'd use VSTs is if there is no AU version available, i.e. various Steinberg plugs, which you would either need a shell (which i don't like, too buggy) or a program that uses VST plugs.
