what purpose does the cycle serve? i`ve always been curious.

 

 

 

I myself haven't gotten much use out of the cycle of 5ths, at least not in the form of that chart. There are some neat things that happen with the chart, but I think the main thing to learn is that a lot of music has chords which move in 4th and 5ths, and that a 4th is an inverted 5th (and vice versa).
