The guitar is a very "specific skill" instrument

Did you ever notice how specific a skill in a technique is on the guitar?

In other words, a skill in a specific technique does not directly translate to a different technique.

You can practice 1-2-3-4 until you get blazing fast with it :D but when you go and play 1-3-5 you are not blazing fast at that.

You can get really good at playing power chords but if you don't practice full chords you probably won't be good at them.

So make sure what you practice can translate to the music you want to play. :thu:

You could even practice playing the music!

Very true. At some point you need to practise the end result.

Training is very specific. It reminds me of weight lifting. Some people want a big bench so they practice all the exercises that are supposed to help that. Skullcrushers for your tris, pull-overs for your chest, etc... That's all good but eventually they have to just sit down and bench if they want to improve.

Some people dance around what they really want to do and lose track of what they're trying to accomplish.
