Members Blungo
I've gone through a number of compressors in the past few years, boss, ibanez, etc. One that i liked quite a bit was the general guitar gadgets orange squeezer clone. A very nice compressor, subtle compared to the boss units but it leaves more of your highs intact. My current fave is the Tone Press, it can go from very subtle and transparent (which is how i generally use it) to quite squishy. For real squish and not {censored}ing with my tone too much, i like my modded DOD 280. It was modded for a shorter release time (so it doesn't pump) and lower noise as well as TBP. I'd like to try the black finger.
Members came2play
Well, I'm throwing another vote in for the Guyatone ST-2. It's really transparent & sounds great for the price....even would sound great for a comp that costs alot more. Check the reviews.
Members percyexpat
i like my marshall ed-1. it has a lot of range and i can always tell when its on. and it feels like its carved from a fistsize, solid lump of metal too. can be had for good prices on ebay for sure. Members 89strat
My favorite so far is the Boss CS-2. I had the marshall, dyna comp, and tone press. I tend to use a compressor a lot for a lead boost with sustain, which is where the tone press really outshined the others. The CS-2, though sounds nicer I think and definitely sustains a lot more but not as good as a boost, but is definitely more of a compressor sound. Unfortunately, I got rid of the tone press before realizing that there was an internal trim pot. Apparently, you could tweak the internal pot to sound more vintage sounding which I assume would be like the CS-2 or dyna comp. Anybody try it? What does the trim pot due to the sound or sustain? Members ZJD
Meh. I've got no complaints with my Keeley Compressor. It works great for Bass too and the 4-Knobber is even sweeter.

Members squareking
+2 on the ST-2 - quite a nice comp. The Blend control is a really good idea. I've got an early Dunlop MXR Dynacomp that sounds amazing with my strat...sustain forever. Cheap too! Anyone ever A/B the Tone Press and Dynacomp? Phil O'Keefe
I was in search of a better comp pedal to replace a new MXR Super Comp I had purchased... the MXR wasn't bad, but wasn't nailing what I was after either. But I borrowed a Demeter Compulator, and MAN is that thing SWEET!!! Highly recommended. :thu:
Members puddinstone
Tone Press! everyone has used all the typical "this is the best compressor" words and phrases like...."subtle and Transparant" and "sustain for days". Don't forget some people's favorite "squishy". I'll throw mine in... Very Versitile and it pushs the bounds of what typical compressors are with the Blend knob...what a great idea!! Do they give out pedal awards? Like most inivative or best take on a vintage pedal...or "This pedal should be on your board right now" award? Members sub rosa
Maxon CP101Dead simple, dead quiet, very well built.Like O'Keefe I was running an MXR (I mean Dunlop, lets not confuse the two people ) Super Comp and it did indeed lack something. The beauty of the Maxon is its transparency, it's certainly a simple set and forget compressor. I need never change.

Members outstanding
Yhe black finger is perfect to use for with your overdrive sounds. It makes my amp overdrive sound nice and round when it used to be flat and stale.I can turn the gain knob down with the bf.I almost never use it on the clean channel but It sounds great in the squish mode with the compression up.It will actually take all the gain away from the signal and the amp in that setting.Even if your gains on 10.Anyone else just use comperssion to fatten your gain?
