they now are full citizens, but they still send money back to relatives that weren't as lucky as them, all the time.

i'm sure many many of the undocumented workers would comply if given an amnesty measure for legalization.

This is a complex problem with all kinds of good and bad arguments with all kinds of angles.

 

#4 will never happen. The work that goes in to amending the constitution is beyond attainable for an issue with so many mixed feelings.

 

Your #1 needs more definition. Close the borders... HOW? perhaps a mile high fence, that also goes a mile underground and is made of 6 foot thick titanium. I'm sure lots of cubans would go to mexico and make lots of money giving swimming lessons, and how to make a raft out of milk cartons 101.

 

#2 is not enough. fine???? most of the employers could care less... for every worker they get caught hiring they will probably get away with many more. I think if you give that same person the prosepct of jail time you will get better results. These people are the only reason illegals come here. your #2 should be #1, and should be the corner stone of any legislation that is passed to deal with this problem whether amnesty is granted or not.

 

Your #3 is kind of a misnomer. I'd like to know just how much of a drain imigrants are on our entitlement systems. States like california with huge imigrant populations get back something like 75 cents for every federal tax dollar they pay, while white people in the midwest suck up the highest ammount of entitlements... but hey it keeps them from rioting right?

I'll make a couple of my redneck points and drop out. I don't have a problem with immigration. I do have a problem with illegal immigration. Here are my reasons why.
1. There are legal means of coming into the USA.
2. When the legal means are not used problems with controlling illnesses and diseases are amplified. There are many diseases that have not been seen in the states in 15-25 years. One of them being the mumps and another being small pox. We've started seeing the mumps here lately. I'd hate to see anything more devastating come in like small pox.
3. We have plenty of people here legally that can work and need jobs.
4. It would help the gas situation by not having as much demand.

I do have other reasons, but this is at the front of my mind at the moment.

I went to Auto Zone today and it was real easy getting in and out thanks to the boycott. I hope it's like that all week.

How did you notice a difference in CTA service if they're shut down or not? It's not like the bastards run on time or regularly or anything.

I didn't even bother with the CTA today man. I drove cause I didn't want to risk missing this test.

Anyway, I was just making a simple observation about them demanding social change in their native country. I cursed a lot yes, but this was most likely my disdain for school coming through. I love mexican food (oh god I didn't capitalize the "m " in mexico, I must be a racist). Carry on playing guitar and loving the hell out of stompboxes. yum.

Well color me shocked, but for once I agree with bluesman. Toss the people in jail that hire the illegals, and they won't be able to find work. Granted, that could just force them all into lives of crime, but who knows.

I find it ironic that people who are in the country illegally are bitching about receiving the same rights as citizens in massive numbers, while actual citizens can't get together and protest all the real bull{censored} that has been going on in the country lately. Well done America.

I for one want the borders shut tight, mainly because I/we lost some civil libertys (not rights) with tha patriot act (which I dread) and if we are square in the middle of a country based on the 2 handles of legalism this should be brough to bare to everyone, even those poor illegals.

I for one think that keeping the border open so these people can get the shaft by crooked employers is wrong also. So the debate of what is "good" for these people is moot point, it sucks to be a illegal alien in this country right now! So lets close the border, to protect these people for their own sake. If we do nothing we are doing them a diservice because they go threw hell to get across the border and the way they are treated by employer (throw away employees, or quasi-slave labor) is wrong. This is not good, so I don't support the status quo.
The other people have a real point about amnesty just not working, I don't want it because it is a failed policy. I mean if it was a success, why do we have to keep doing the same thing over and over. We need to make hard choices that make sense for our country

Did anyone else notice traffic was unusually light today? Maybe these illegals should boycott everyday. Everything around me still seems to be open, driving to work was a breeze, as was parking for free on the street, and they can all sit in the park and whine about rights that they don't deserve because they are in the country ILLEGALLY.

And I love the Mexico City comment. So {censored}ing true. Go bitch about rights in your own country if we're so unappreciative here.

But what do I know, I'm just a racist asshole from Texas that works with and is friends with plenty of legal latinos that came to work today like real Americans.

well, they may be mexican, but in the meat processing industry, illegals only make up about 20% of the workforce.

and about taxes - if they're on the payroll, they pay taxes - they have SS taken out of their checks, even though they'll never see it.
regardless of what their job is - illegals pay into the SS system by the millions per state, each year.

Someone at work just made the interesting point that if you made these illegals citizens, they'd pretty much be required to pay taxes anyhow. Given how SS and Medicade are going belly up around 2040, why wouldn't you want to increase the tax base?
