Members cratz2
Not for me. I'm a very low gain kinda guy. I usually use a Bad Monkey with the gain set to about 9 o'clock. But a friend of mine is interested in a heavy heavy metal pedal. For thick, chugga type work. Mostly rhythm. I had him listen to the samples on the Boss website. He's more interested in the thick wall of sound rather than the scooped mid sound. My suggestion was the MT2 since it seems like it would have a pretty big range of distortion sounds but at $100, there are a lot of modelers and multieffects that might deserve attention. Members ZJD
Maybe he needs a fuzz for the wall of sound thing?
Members jimmyc84
rat?
Members scott_335
A big no on the MT-2. At the very least, buy used. The rat gets a lot of respect. Maybe try one of the new Big muffs
Members cratz2
I used to have a Rat. An older one back in the early 90s. I liked it for my uses, but I think he is wanting more of that thick Metallica kinda sound. I've never owned a dedicated fuzz. Can they even get close to that kind of sound? The other thing that is also holding him back is he refuses to use anything other than the bridge position pickup. I always got better sounds out of my neck HB or even both bridge+neck HBs and with the treb/higher frequencies either on the amp or in an EQ pedal. Ahh... that's another story. Thanks for the suggestions so far.
Members sonic_tooth
Go with a big muff. Everybody needs at least one. I think it is great for the wall of sound thing. They can sound vague if you are trying to do complicated rhythm work though.

Members waveman
Digitech Hot Rod Rock distortion - can be had for about $35-40 used.
Members Mister Crowley
I'd say a Keeley Modded MT2. I haev and it's great for heavy chug chug riffs a la Metallica. Sounds much better than the stock and has three different modes so it's a very versatile pedal. $150 shipped from Keeley's site.
Members justintee
check out the MI Audio Tube Zone @ www.miaudio.comquite the metal pedal. functions quite well around the midlow-mid gain region too. very fun. and cheap
Members Armoredfist316
I have tried just about all the mass produced stuff and a metal muff was the best. I ave heard great things about a keeley MT-2 also, and the MI Audio Tube zone but they are pretty expensive.

Members Mr. Shankly
For chugga type stuff I think an MI Audio Tube Zone would be a good place to start.
Members fusionid
this might sound odd but my rec is to post this thread in the amp forum. The reality is that most of us here are the OD and fuzz crazy crowd.
Members tocs100
Either Danelectro Fab Metal into Fab Distortion ($30 new) or DOD Flashback Fuzz ($40 new) I reviewed both set-ups at TMG, link is in sig.

Members Brown Rug
i've heard great things about the line 6 ubermetal despite the fact that it's from line 6 (strikes fear into those anti-digital people). it's got a recto type of sound to it.
