Members joeblane
Anybody know how he gets that crazy distortion in Only Shallow off of Loveless? I'd love to get that sound. Or how he does basically anything he does? dude's crazy, i swear.
Members Noise...
I know he used a Fender Blender a lot. With mine, I can get some very MBV-like tones.
Members Virex
See also the Marshall Shredmaster. He used that a lot. Pedals like the Creamy Dreamer, the older Big Muffs, and the Effector 13 fuzz's like the Shoe Gazer and the Rocket and the White Spider will be good too. On the recording the sound was more of a recording technique than use of gear. The enclosed a microphone in 2 amps with the tremolo on each amp and different speeds. then he sampled the wee riff and then layered it and reversed it so you hear reversed and normal riffs going on, did that make any sense? the point is the album one is samples:) Wiki has it all there:thu: "Only Shallow" was created with several passes of guitar using two speakers facing each other with their tremolos set at different rates. He then reversed the guitar tracks and played them backwards into a sampler and stacked them so as to merge into one.
Members Purple Bottle
reverse reverb goes a long way. he never used a shredmaster, don't be fooled.
Members dap99
I read an interview w/ him and he said that a lot of his tones were actually done w/ an acoustic and some effects. He didn't do a lot of tracks, but he did mess around a lot w/ reverbs and delays; especially reverse delays. But from what I remember reading - there were really only a couple guitar tracks (but it sounds like a lot) and it was mainly based on his acoustic.
id like to know how he rigs up his acoustic to sound so electric. i dont think bilinda plays any parts in this song so it could be bass overdrive doing the overdrive work that the guitars would usually do... As far as I know they didn't use to post on there without word from the artist. But who knows.
