I've done the drive from rockford, IL to boston both ways about 14 times, 90% of the same trip you are doing. Not stopping sucks. I always try to get at least into NY before stopping, which shouldn't be to hard if you leavin the morning. One great place to stop is Niagara Falls, if you've never been it's well worth it, maybe an hour off of 90, it's a good place to stop for lunch or diner, depending on what time of day it is.

, maybe even between Milwaukee-Boston somewhere along I-90 in upstate NY as that is a long ass drive to start the trip.

So I am wondering about Motel 6 verses other 'cheap motel' chains...

anyone have opinions or advice, which ones were decent for a shower and sleep, which ones were a dirty used porno sets that required showercaps on your feet to walk across the floor.

I'll also take any advice on places to stop for me and my wife in upstate NY to break up that trip on I-90... or hotels in Boston on the green line a bit out of town that are cheaper to stay at, and just take the train in and out of fenway/downtown

thanks!

In Pittsburgh you don't want to stay in a cheap hotel on the north side. If you want to walk to PNC park, get a nice hotel room downtown, near the point. The Hilton is the closest one to the point I can think of, but there are ones that aren't quite as upscale. You can walk right over the bridge to Heinz Field and PNC Park. And if there is a nice day, you can walk with your wife at point state park. It is small but nice.

If you need anymore Pittsburgh advice- where to eat, what to go and see in your free time, et cetera, let me know.

I'd suggest you get some Primanti's brothers sandwiches in the Strip District (it is the original Primanti's, accept no imitation, it isn't quite the same) and take a ride on one of the inclines on mount Washington. If you want to hit up the South Side there is plenty of cool stuff there.
