My mom actually bought me my first keyboard - a used Farfisa Compact back in 1974 - from there on in I was on my own. But we traveled a lot on summer vacations and she would always help me find a music store in town so I could go check out the stuff that you couldn't find back home. She was always behind my hobby even though she couldn't afford to help me with it.

And i'm still a big fan of the S-50. I got mine about the same time as the one in that article. I still have it as well as a S-550. Both have color monitors, a mouse and a tablet (and I agree with the article - the tablet never did much for me). For those looking for a easy to use piece of music history the S-50's are a neat little machine and can be found for around $75. The monitors are a little harder to find.

I remember wanting an S50 in the worst way when they came out. I almost bought the S10 some time before, and then the 50 / 550 came out. Those ads showing the S50 hooked up to that sexy monitor really cinched it.

I never did get one, though. I ended up buying a D50 and an EPS.
