Members carbon111
Rane SM-82 8 stereo inputs (for a total of 16!) and a send-return - dead quiet. Around $500 new but $100 - $200 on eBay. http://www.rane.com/sm82s.html
Members Son of HuHefner
I don't agree with your rack mixers. We/you have a prevailing digital personality with our keyboards I prefer the mixers like the Mackie Onyx ( there are others) that bring back an analog character
Members carbon111
I've got Focusrite and UA analog outboard for those things that need "warming". It sounded like the OP was just looking for a line mixer for his boards...
Members Setneuf_r
thanx for the infoi guess the Rane will work for me ?what other stuff you got in your rack ?any compressors ? or pre amps ?im new in this
Members mate_stubb
I use an Ashly LX-308B that I like better than the Rane.
Members Rockin*Gio
+1 for the Ashly LX-308B . . . I replaced the "five rack space" Mackie LM-3204 with the Ashly and noticed an improvement in the overall sound. I run a Roland Fantom X-6, Yamaha Motif, Hammond XK-1, Alesis Micron, and Korg MicroKorg into the Ashly. I don't use any external FX, EQ, or compression in my live rig. Members Sparkytfl
I didn't realize things like that exist. I was looking at normal mixers and getting annoyed that all of em were almost entirely xlr/mono inputs with like four stereo channels at the end. Members mate_stubb
They are commonly called "line mixers".
Members carbon111
I use an Ashly LX-308B that I like better than the Rane. I like the Ashly as well. The reason I like the Rane a little more is that it has a full stereo-send/stereo-return on it. The build quality is nice and the specs are respectable. The only one of these 1U line mixers I would steer away from is the Rolls unit, it has a lot of crosstalk and a high noise floor that was troublesome in my studio... Members mytee2.0
mackie lm-3204 is pretty cool, its pretty big though. its to bad your in Guatemala, Id sell you mine
Members Awake77
I prefer the mixers like the Mackie Onyx ( there are others) that bring back an analog character I use a Macke Onyx 1220 as the front end to my PC, and all my synths run through it - it certainly does impart a certain niceness to the sound. Members carbon111
SpecK makes a sweet 1U too, the X-Sum...32 Speck-quality inputs in 1U...but its $1600. Someday...
Members Marzzz
This is very nice, but pricy: And this is much cheaper:
Members carbon111
And this is much cheaper: And sounds it. Worse than Rolls...
Members donaldcrunk
i have two of those rolls (302?). they were 30 dollars each. 10 stereo inputs. noisefloor isn't TERRIBLE, i mean i've heard worse, but the crosstalk is pretty hilarious. what's your budget, dude? that mackie line mixer seems to be the cat's ass... Members carbon111
I had a couple Rolls (1 used, 1 brand-new) but was always annoyed by the quality of sound I was getting...they were fine at first but after a couple of years started to grate on my ears. When I'd solo a synth in a track that had gone through it, it was easy to tell... Thats just been my experience with them.
Members Sparkytfl
I guess I'm too new that I can't hear differences in mixers. Though I've never really ABed any and just went right to a mackie (1202vlz) instead of bothering with potentially junk cheaper ones.
Members The Real MC
+1 on the Rane SM82. Quiet as a cat (mice don't count, cats can hear them) and pristine audio quality. One of the other nice features is the expand I/O which lets you chain SM82s without consuming an input channel. As my MIDI system expanded over the years, I added SM82s. I have three in my system now. Ashly has a good rep too. A buddy of mine has a Peavey line mixer that he likes.
