Members thom
If you're familiar with your hifi speakers, the most obvious option seems the 'pro' version (whatever they're called) of those Wharfedale Diamond speakers. Don't know from first hand experience, but they're supposedly great monitors for the money. Very affordable, nice looking, and not a single slightly 'meh' review online, at least as far as I could find...
Members brokenfixed
Ive had some M Audio BX5's for the past 5 or 6 years and do pretty well with them. Never had any problems and they sound great for the price... http://www.musiciansfriend.com/pro-audio/m-audio-bx5-d2-studio-monitors
