Mega can you make a clip for me? I want to hear the Blackmore doing Amon Amarth. I love your Carcass clip. It grinds just the way it should.

I'm at school right now, so I can't record anything anytime so. I could probably do an AA clip when I go home for X-Mas, you have any particular song in mind?

Ah ok I'll give the EL34's a go then.

This self biasing thing interests me , so i can whack some EL34's in the (Two Outside slots ?) & just start up the amp & play away ?

BTW does anyone have a preferance for Valves in this amp
I have stock Mesa 6L6's in there now

I have some new JJ E34L's sitting around & some Old
Groove Tube EL34s . I might try ?
And a small collection of 12ax7s somewhere.

What do you guys use ?

i don't really like EL34s in the outside positions, i've tried JJ, SED, EH... finally just happy with 6L6s in there. but yeah you can just pop 'em in, they're cathode biased so there's nothing to worry about. they should be a matched pair though.

Im guessing the clean channel would suffer at band volume

What was the negative effect on the Dirty tones ?

i thought the cleans suffered at all volumes, and the high gain tones were a little nasal and less deep sounding. it's not a huge difference (obviously, because SFW's clips sound great) but i think EL34s coupled with the V30 speakers i use just add up to a ragged midrange and weaker bottom that don't quite work for me.

I was just listening to some of your other clips

I noticed your *R2 Crunch Rock* tones are

MUCH meaner Fatter & tighter !

Would you mind giving me some advice on those settings & are you using anything else to drive it ?

Thought Im still playing with the amps potential , The R2 sounds nothing like your clips ?

Thanks

It'll be tough matching those tones with a combo (open air speaker). He used a closed 4x12 cab to get those tighter tones.

it's not the open back, it's the speaker. i *hate* R2 with that custom 90 speaker. i find it exactly like he describes, flubby, lacking gain, kinda like a box of gravel. with different speakers it totally changes. with V30s, R2 is my favorite channel on the amp.

Yeah the speakers would make a big difference
I have a
Quad Box with blackback G12H-30's
Quad with 75 watt celestions
And 2x12 with original celestion 80's

Problem is my 2 Quads are 16 Ohms
And the 2x12 is 8 Ohms.
And as you know the
MKIV has 8/4/4 Speaker outs

How can I use either of these cabs in Conjunction with the Combo's speaker ?

Sorry for asking so many questions

you could plug in the combo speaker and your 212 into the two 4-ohm jacks, or unplug the combo speaker and use both of your quads on the 8-ohm jack if at least one of them has a parallel jack to run the second one from.

also, you could plug a 16-ohm quad into the 8-ohm jack without worry. it's not the best idea with all amps, but mesa says this is perfectly fine to do with theirs, you'll just have less power.
