  1. Used to happen for a bit, but then I learned/taught myself the ability to turn that Consciousness on/off. I think that's really important as an engineer/producer because you want to be able to understand the music from a creative, technical and business point of view.
  2. Hey Everyone! Head over to www.soundclick.com/BEFOREANDAFTER for some before and after examples of my mixing and mastering work. New songs/examples are added weekly and they just keep getting better and better Looking more so to just showcase my work, rather than get a bunch of critiques. Thanks for listening! 3. Btw, could this "pumping" be because of Myspace? I think it boosts lows, highs and compress everything by default. With regards to the discussion of "where the audio industries go" I can really appreciate what MarkGifford says and I think he makes perfect sense. I do not work as an audio engineer myself though I am trained as one and my experience says that a lot of professions suffer from the same thing. I have a friend who is quite rich. She works occasionaly when she's bored. She recently asked 10 Euros per hour to teach 3D Animation in a private college because she "would like to have the experience" and have a fancy CV. She got hired instantly and even though she's good she didn't get the job because of her skills but because she's cheap. I think this mentality is quite aggresive towards the idustries and we all share the responsibility. It's about awareness and education. If I were a professional audio engineer I would focus on educating my customers and convince them that what they pay worths every cent. sp. Hey man, Mpspace compresses the file to make it of a smaller size, same name but different process. While myspace does make everything sound like crap and I encourage everyone to use Soundclick (sounds sooo much better:)). The pumping is definitly in his Compression technique. Whats interesting to say the least is that a little pumping is actually a good thing in rock and even hip hop music. THe key is to get the attack and release set correctly in accordance to the threshold in order to trick the ear that there isn't pumping or even breathing going on in the first place. 4. I charge $25. And I feel bad charging that. Dude, get what you can get. And buy more gear or something if you feel that bad!
  5. what's the best way to fix "pumping"? Yeah, You can't fix it, more so that prevent it. My guess is that he started with a really dynamic mix with not alot of individual compression on the drum buss/guitar and etc (like blue mentioned). Then you add the poor compression technique in mastering and you get pumping. He needs to check his attack and release times as well as the threshold.
  6. I have a friend who does something similar. Working out of his parents basement, 20 bucks an hour, free mixing and mastering. As far as this guy goes...yeah the mastering job is bad. Things are pumping like crazy! The recording/mix isn't half bad, especially for the 20$ an hour.
  7. He probably does it so dudes like you get bent out of shape and react to it.

  9. At this point Im feeling two things... 1-The mods are complete Pricks(if this is true, not saying that it is, but if so...well you deserve the title) 2- The mods are mere puppets in the greater sceme of things.
  10. Originally posted by cyndicate I dont even bother looking at the spam sticky anymore, its too crazy +5000000000 Its soo impractical. Sitting there for hours. If anything There should be a spam section sorted out like the Gear Review section. You would first look for Type, Then Make, Then Model. But even that would be stupid because sometimes we aren't nessesarily looking for something, then it pops up and we want to grab it.
