Venom are widely regarded as the first black metal band, who came from Newcastle-upon-Tyne. What are the colours of Newcastle Utd and how many Geordies do you see sporting black and white face paint on a match day?

Venom never did corpsepaint.

It is widely regarded that the first band to use corpsepaint was the Brazillian thrash band Sarcofago, from there is where the Norweigan black metal scene took it from.

Course you also have your people that wear it saying it is a return to viking war paint aswell but personally I beleive that they just took it from Sarcofago and use that as an excuse.
