Members Zlandicar
I'm looking for something cheaper than the SM57. I'm pretty sure that 50 years after it was made something has come along that is cheaper and better sounding. So let's hear it.
Members -todgemistro-
I dont see anything wrong with an SM57.. if a recording n00b like me can get some ok recordings with a very basic setup it cant be that bad.

I'm pretty sure that 50 years after it was made something has come along that is cheaper and better sounding. So let's hear it. No. It's an imported, mass produced, small diaphragm dynamic mic. It doesn't get much cheaper to manufacture and effective for the cost than that. There are other similar, but DIFFERENT mics available today, but they are not just better, and they cost about the same. Obviously, if there was something cheaper and somehow just better (doesn't really happen with mics, most all of them have their uses), you'd have heard about it. Why in the world would tons of people here still be buying SM57s?
Members nerol1st
Cheaper than a 57 and better? I don't think so. There are other mics: Audix i5, Senn. e609. But they pretty much run the same price tag as the 57. Quit complaining it's a good mic.
Members rockappalla
I'm using a cheap (70$) Behringer C1 condenser mic...way way better results than a standard dynamic mic...however you'll need phantom power...
