Is this a competitive sport?When comparing myself to other musicians (doesn't matter what instrument they play), I compare mine and his/hers sense of melody, and our ability to play the melodies that are in our heads on the fly. From the clips around here, I can't conclude anything because I can't know whats pre-written, and whats on the fly. In my area, I'd say I'm in the upper echelon. I don't know either about pre-written and on the fly. I can say that anything I have ever done both rhythms, bass and leads are all on the fly. One takes and if there are mistakes, I leave 'em.
