Members em07189
HI everyone! What kind of strings do you put on your gibson les paul for a fat sound, but also god for a lower action?

Members Rayneman
I use D'Addario 9's. I'm pretty sure LPs come stock for 10s, but I have used 9s forever and so that's what it is. I tried 10s, and while they sounded great and the action wasn't affected at all really, they didn't feel as "slinky" or elastic as I like. I thinki it sounds plenty fat...the chunkiness of the Les Paul helps with that! Also, I always play in standard / drop D with a 440 A.

Members mohowski
i've been using Ernie Ball Skinny Top / Heavy Bottoms for a year now on my Lp. The top 3 strings are from a set of 9's which i like for going bend crazy, and the lower 3 strings are from a set of 11s or something like that, for fat bottom end riffage. Members theGhost
GHS TNT BOOMERS:thu:Les Paul Custom, tuned to Eb +1 @ the 10-52 guage. but i think my fav's are Dean Markley Blue Steel LTHB's (10-52). they're fat and chimey at the same time. Members FLYING V 83
Orange Slinky hybrids (9-46) Used to use DM Blue Steels (same 9-46) 'til I saw how they were eating into my frets. That cryo treatment makes 'em hard as nails and they act like files on the frets over time.

Thanks I'll give em a try...it's about time anyway. It just seems that everytime I stray from teh GHS I'm disapponted.

Members Cougar Hunter
if a guitar already sounds thin, thicker strings can only help so much. and yes, a les paul can sound super thin. look at any Jimmy page video.

Members mahon451
Ernie Ball 10-52s in standard. I was thinking about going to straight 11s, though.
Members xbryanx
depends what tuning your playing in, i only do E, Eb or drop D and i use the Ernie Ball Slinky hybrid set (10s on top, 9s on bottom). if your gonna play in drop Db or C id kick it up to 11s at least, maybe even 12s for drop C or straight B tuning. GHS strings are also very nice and sound huge, but they dont make a hybrid set :/
Members shredhead34
DR makes amazing strings. Tite-fit for fatter, warmer sound. Hi-beams for a bit brighter attack. I go back and forth b/t these two on my LPC.
Members Dave Owens
im getting my Argile copy back ( its a good one with the right horn on it)..there putting in 6100's and a new brass nut..i had them string it with 11/13/15/32/42/52 and tune it to D...what ill do is bring it home and do the final tweeks myself.proably tune it to C# and put a 56/58 in the low E andsee where the rest of the strings need to fall..( what guages ill use with that heavy a low E)..then ill run it thru either my Mrk3 or my Mako..(and then watch the neighbors run for cover..lol.)
