Members ericwylde
has anyone tried 6L6's on it?does it support 6550's only setting up the bias?does it take off that little el34's harshness?i prefer cleaner power tubes in hi gain amps

Members Dimebag11
just stick KT77's in there. Let's face it the cobra is not the best built amp on the planet...I wouldn't do anything that could make it even less reliable.
Members ericwylde
and what about 6l6's? i like neutral tone power tubes any el34 amp can support 6l6's (but i don't know the bias values) i'm curious about how it would sound mine is coming by sea so i'll probably wait more 2 months

Members rrrajo
If you Love Recto's with 6l6's , you probably will like the Cobra dressed in the same. The 6550's will give it more Balls. More Presence and Different Lows. Like going from a Marshall SLP to a Major!
Members Chrisjd
I am not even sure what other tubes besides el34s the cobra can handle.
Members cobrahead1030
i've never heard of anyone running 6l6's in their cobra, so i probably wouldn't risk it being that the power tubes are undoubtedly a big factor in the tone of an amp, i don't get how any of them would be neutral sounding either
Members ericwylde
techs say that any el34 amp can handle 6l6 since you set the bias for it, so i'm not afraid about screwing the amp (6550 may do it ) but i'm curious about how it would sound when i say "neutral", i mean that it doesn't affect the preamp tone too much like the el34, kt77 and el84's do el34's always bring that middy british harshness i've made some tests in a studio with a jcm 800 2204 copy, my peavey rockmaster and a mesa triaxis i liked how they sounded with el34's, but when i heard it recorded i noticed that AC/DC sound on it, even in the heaviest riffs

Members Dimebag11
{censored}, I never hear AC/DC tone in my cobra live or recorded I have another one on the way most likely biased, saturated mod, loaded with Ruby EL34BSTR's the way a cobra SHOULD be! Members Dimebag11
I don't think anything would make the Cobra loose I seriously think you should stick with the EL34's.

Members knucklefux
you could do 6L6's most likely. you want to set your idle current around 35-40mA with them. if you can't get the current low enough, it'll kill the tubes faster because they will run "too hot". as for 6550's, you *might* be able to put them in there, but you'd have to mod the bias circuit. i doubt you would be able to use KT88's at all, as they usually require pretty negative bias voltages to keep from redplating. Members ericwylde
so i got an answer from Framus (actually my e-mail blocked it as a spam ) they answered my e-mail in 1 day. Hello, nice to hear from you. Yes you can replace the EL34 to 6L6 tubes without problem. But you have to readjust the bias setting. Values between
