Members wwwjd
occasionally, something will write itself in my dream. This morning's was so powerful, I was vividly LIVING in the dream of what the song was supposed to paint. It presented an into, mid story and wrapup, the surroundings, the melody and an additional concept I can't go into, but fit comfortably into the pop-hit formula! I was actually in the dream, WRITING the whole 3D surroundings into a song, and THINKING to myself I am dreaming this, and NEED to remember this and WAKE UP and go write it down. i stayed asleep and kept telling myself I needed to wake up because I know I will forget if I don't wake up, and after a bit, I jostled awake. I got up and realised I woke up an hour earlier than the alarm, and went and wrote it all down. It's a neat concept and I can't wait to bring it to life! Anyone else write in or about dreams? night times fantasy-scape. gotta love it!
Members not_unbored
that's pretty much what my band is all about. for better or worse, my dreams never seem to fit into the pop-hit formula. night times fantasy-scapes are indeed FTW, but seeing as how that sort of thing is my bread and butter, i get twice as frustrated when i have dreams about mundane and boring days at work. Members vladtra
I find sticking to a beat gets me where I want. There's about 30 different things I do when I write a song. But as soon as I get to the pen and paper with a clear mind I will write down what all those things are.
Members NothingMan
I've only had one very memorable dream.. Instead of describing everything, I'll sum it up: Trapped on a tiny patch of land with a dozen other people with an ENORMOUS kraken trying to kill us. I fall in the water (which is as clear as the sky) and a mermaid swims up to me gracefully, kisses me, and I black out. She gave off an ominous feeling. Writing a song about the whole story. lol

Members WrdsNmuzik
I've woken up with tunes in my head from dreams, and then went and figured them out on guitar. I've also written songs that were based on dreams, the details I could remember.
Members blue2blue
I had to look up kraken... I can honestly say I am not aware of, up until now, ever having a kraken in my dreams. Octopi, yes. When I was a kid, I used to spend a few weeks most summers at my grandparents in Mission Beach (in San Diego) and one of their neighbors was a marine biologist at Scripps Oceanographic Institute and a skin diver, and had three octopi in two big aquaia in their den. (I figure, if I'm doing octopi, I might as well do aquaria to, and go for full correctness.) Anyhow, these octopi, two relatively mellow females and a large aggressive male (separated by sex) were pretty interesting. It is, apparently, quite difficult to keep an octopus -- a possibly sex-starved octopus is my thinking -- in a conventional aquarium as they can unhinge their beaks and flatten down to almost nothing to escape... but the male kept escaping and hiding in the room (a foolhardy thing to do when you're a seagoing mollusk with a somewhat limited ability to survive outside the water)... he would also, if he could manage, squirt 'ink' at the husband of this couple, who had been the one who pulled him out of his rocky home off the coast of La Jolla. (I now view this octopus in somewhat heroic terms, I have to admit. Kind of like David Bowie in The Man Who Fell to Earth.) Anyhow, dreams... For sure, they are an important part of my creative and other processes. I have certainly written songs or other works the day after having particularly troubling (or happy -- and those are almost the most troubling of all, at this point, sadly) dreams. To me, it seems like my subconscious is churning through stuff in the dream and, sometimes, that stuff is ready to come out later in the form of a song... sometimes its a long, long way from the dream, and sometimes it directly confronts it. VERY close, it's happened 2 or 3 times were i hear a song in my dream then i wake up and i search for it everywhere, turns out it doesn't exist and i write it on paper feels like cheating though

Members eddieboston2
I dreamed up a song once, start to finish. I even got it written down and recorded. I thought it was a pretty good song, but nobody else liked it. I don't remember it anymore.

Members JimiRules
I came up with a killer riff one time and couldn't think of anywhere else to go after that. I sat on it for a few months and every once in a while I'd noodle around with it during a practice session, but still couldn't come up with anything else to do with it. About 4 or 5 months after I wrote the riff I woke up one morning and had the rest of the music and all the lyrics literally playing in my head. I went downstairs, picked up my guitar, and found the music. Then I wrote the lyrics on the computer and the whole song was presented to my band and recorded about a week later. It's kinda funny how things like that work out.

Members La Route Du
I agree with most of you....thats on topic....but i also have had very moveing dreams...but there are more realistic....one for instance is when one of my best freinds(a girl which is now my girlfriend in ironicly) was very sad on her birthday....so the whole day i felt really bad for her. so that night i went to sleep and i dreamed about her crying and then i touched her and then she began to smile...then i started to sing to her.....then i woke up and wrote down most of the words...i recoreded it on a little tape recorder and the song is really touching....but yeah im a dream writter to.....sorry for being very long...
