Members 9841507
So my dual rec has 2 preamp tubes that aren't lighting up, it's definitely the tubes because I've moved them around, I just find this strange because the amp sounds fine (Though I just got it so maybe somethings off but no obvious signs of failure). Is this normal or should the tubes be replaced?
Members marshallnoise
It depends on the tubes. Some older tubes (as in 1960s) don't light up much at all. The plates never glow much. If it works, it works. Right?
Members Erock503
some tubes have a very faint light, sometimes hard to see if they're even lit up. I seem to recall my Sovtek 12ax7 LPS being almost completely dark.
Members DZello
Same thing here with the 2 pre-amp tubes I have... No problem at all!
Members Brick
they're not light bulbs, they're tubes. Just because they don't light up, doesn't mean that they don't work. Trust yourself, they're not broken

Members cmercein8
What are the brightest (not in tone, but actual electromagnetic radiation) tubes would you say?

Members knucklefux
furthermore, a tube isn't necessarily working because it does light up.

Members squealies6505
i have 2 JJ ECC83's and 2 sovtek 12AX7 LPS tubes in my VTM60 preamp.. i was worried about because the sovteks didn't light at all ever..i researched it and i read on a website that usually the LPS pre's don't light up even though they're working properly, and that people commonly think they're all broken..If your amp is working and sounds good, you're all set brotha..you'd know if something was up.
