I think Paul Simon is one of the best...

"I get the news I need on the weather report..." Always loved that line.

Yes! Here's one I heard again from Simon that hit me...

In my little town

I never meant nothin'

I was just my fathers son

Saving my money

Dreaming of glory

Twitching like a finger

On the trigger of a gun

Leaving nothing but the dead and dying

Back in my little town

Let us be lovers, we'll marry our fortunes together.

I've got some real estate here in my bag.

So we bought a pack of cigarettes

and Mrs. Wagner's pies

and walked off to look for America.

"Kathy," I said, as we boarded a Greyhound in Pittsburgh,

"Michigan seems like a dream to me now.

It took me four days to hitchhike from Saginaw.

I've come to look for America."

Laughing on the bus,

playing games with the faces.

She said, "The man in the gaberdine suit was a spy."

I said "Be careful, his bowtie is really a camera."

"Toss me a cigarette I think there's one in my raincoat."

"We smoked the last one an hour ago."

So I looked at the scenery. She read her magazine.

And the moon rose over an open field.

"Kathy, I'm lost," I said, though I knew she was sleeping.

"I'm empty and aching, and I don't why."

Counting the cars on the New Jersey Turnpike.

They've all come to look for America.

Just drop off the key, Lee...

This seals it. Paul Simon IS my favorite lyricist. And, having researched it a bit just now, I now realize that there is a TON of his stuff I've never heard. I might be visiting Amazon.com tonight...

If you took all the girls I knew when I was single

And brought them all together for one night

I know they'd never match my sweet imagination

And everything looks worse in black and white

Wish I was a Kellogg's cornflake

floating in my bowl takin' movies,

relaxin' a while, livin' in style.

talkin' to a raisin who occasionally plays LA,

casually glancing at his toupee.

Let's not forget Smokey.

"I'm just about at

the end of my rope.

But I can't stop trying

I can't give up hope."

"Take a good look at my face..."

And Chuck Berry

"As I was motivatin' over the hill..."

"Ridin' along in my automobile..."

"I got no kick against modern jazz..."

"Long distance operator, give me Memphis Tennessee..."
