So, after two months of waiting, I finally have the Marshalls my uncle gave me. They're going to a tech tomorrow to give them a once-over.

I'm a little unclear on what one of them is, but I believe it's just called a Marshall 50 Watt. Is this commonly referred to as a Plexi?

The JMP Super Lead's serial number is SL/A 2225C - I believe it's a 1971

The other amp's serial number is S/1922A - I believe this is a 1969 - it has a tag on the inside that has a test date of 14/7/69

Any idea what model the cab is? There is nothing I could find inside to give me any clues.

The cab is loaded with 2 of these:

I'm excited to turn these up.

Congradulations on receiving those amazing two Marshalls.

If you don't already know about them, I would seriously reccomend some research to understand the magnitude of your uncle's generosity and the current value of these two EXTREMELY fine amps.

Also, make sure your tech know exactly what he is doing, so he doesn't devalue these amps!

My question is really this - what do I refer to the 50 watt amp as? Can I just call it a Plexi?

It's a "small box" Marshall JMP 50, 1987 model. It's not a "real" plexi because it doesn't have frontplate/backplate made of plexiglass but circuit is the same as in plexi. In second half of 1969 they started doing faceplates out of brushed aluminum so most people call these amps "metalface".

Congrats on your present, take good care of it

Nice score but why on earth would you take them to a tech for a once over ?

Did your uncle say they need service or somthing wrong at all ? If not, do not {censored} with those amps - for the love of everything holy and sacred PLEASE do not {censored} with those

I really hope you dont use a metal zone with those beutiful amps.

Heh...oddly enough, My old '71 Superbass was the only amp I've ever heard a Metalzone sound good with. Of course I was boosting rather than using it as the stand alone distortion. The amp just added the wallop that pedal lacked. I was playing SIOA style Hardcore with that set up!
