Congrats man! How beastly does it get?

Thanks dude! Its definitely not like an ENGL or other "modern metal" amps. I mean it can get into that territory, but vintage high gain is what it does best. The amount of gain is there, but its a very loose and open type of gain. I've been playing a lot more doom/stoner/sludge lately, and have a potential band in that style starting up soon, so thats a big part why I opted to get this thing. Hopefully this amp will make it down to Colorado Springs unlike the last two...

There's a bunch of orange factory restocks on the cheap on the MF/GC websites, and you get the full warranty still with those :poke: (I saved $500 on my Thunderverb by going that route)

What is a factory restock exactly?

Basically it means that the amp was returned to Orange, and it gets checked and repaired if necessary, then sent back out to be sold at a lower price. I don't know the situation for all amps, but I have concluded that mine was used for the Sweetwater Gearfest '10, and then returned to the factory. And judging by the sheer number of factory restock Oranges popping up on GC/MF, my gut tells me that they were all from the gearfest in an Orange booth or something. But that part is just my conjecture.

Ok, did a few more quick and dirty clips.

Comparison clip between the clean on channels A and B. Both set with flat EQs and the same gain level
http://www.netmusicians.org/files/59-channelABcleancomparison.mp3

Then some of just channel B clean
http://www.netmusicians.org/files/88-channelBclean.mp3

Then some light breakup on channel B
http://www.netmusicians.org/files/26-channelBlightbreakup.mp3

Some bits and pieces of the song Dragonaut by Sleep
http://www.netmusicians.org/files/66-dragonaut.mp3

And finally some Electric Wizard using my Swollen Pickle fuzz
http://www.netmusicians.org/files/75-returntrip.mp3

All the clips were done with mostly flat EQs, I haven't done too much tweaking yet.

I apologize for nothing :lol::rawk:

I really need to play one of these. All the clips make it sound very similar to the things I like about the Rocker 30 only with a {censored} {censored} ton more gain. Of course, I don't need a {censored} {censored} ton more gain, but c'est la vie.

You could always use a backup Orange in case anything goes wrong with the Rocker, especially since those are discontinued... :cop:

Thanks dude! It sounds twice as good in room, I wish I could capture it better. I really need to work on my recording technique/mic placement more

What's your recording chain?

Sounds like you've got the mic ON the grill, lots of proximity effect going on, back it off about 2" from the grill and maybe 1/2" from the dust cab to tame the bass a little.

SM57 -> Presonus Firebox -> reaper. You're right, I am on the grill, I'll have to try backing it off, thanks

Also run your pre as hot as possible without clipping. Also if you feel like spending an extra $60 you could pick up an MXL 990 for a little room ambience, works great as it's cheap and doesn't need to sound amazing since you're just mixing it in slightly.

Sounds good man, just a few tweaks to make it sound more "room-like"
