So bad ass.....

My drummer is a Dave Lombardo type Metal drummer. And when I asked him if he'd like to try surf he was like "Well...I guess. I've never played that style of music, do I have to play like all "safe." I was like "No, you can be Dave Lombardo but in a Surf band, here....play the basic drum beat to War Ensemble, I'll show you!"

He's always wanted to cover that song in all of the bands he's done. He never thought it'd be done in a surf band.

We grew up w/ Reverend Horton Heat playing Rockabilly songs w/ a Motorhead beat. I figure the aggression of Slayer is no different than the aggression of Dick Dale. All of it makes sense to me.

You actually probably already do if you've been playing in punk bands. I've essentially just turned the gain down and put a huge amount of spring reverb on my sound. But I started from old stuff that I loved (Link Wray, Dick Dale, Lively Ones, Ventures.) Then ended up finding new bands (Man...Or Astroman, Mag Seven) on things like Pandora. Just create a Dick Dale playlist on Pandora and you'll find a lot of cool {censored}! Even if you don't learn to play it, it's great party/chill music. It can be just as aggressive and dark as any metal band but it can also be slow enough to drop panties. There are no politics involved and the more obnoxious you are show wise, the better off you are.

good suggestion, thanks man

Ahhh... Aggressive surf. Funny that you bring Slayer into the mix as this is the kind of energy I tried to bring in my old surf band. Had one of my song end up as the menu track in a Kimberly Kane porn flick, which was a kinda WTF moment.

 Clips? How much did you make off of that?

How much I made from the porn flick? Pretty much sweet {censored} all, as usual. The movie was called "Morphine". They used the track "The Lonesome Cretin" from our Doomsday Device CD. Not the only time it happened. Got two tracks used in two documentaries as well and never saw a dime from that either. Ahhh, show business.

By the way, really sweet guitar sound on Barebacking. The feel of the band is very "Ghastly Ones"

Thanks. Very proud of that album. It was recorded with a pair of Roland VS-880 at the time on a really shoe-string budget, but I still like the way it turned out sonically even today.

We were supposed to release another CD called "Epileptic Ladyland" a few years ago, but the band imploded before we could bring that project to its end. You can hear some of the unmastered songs on the myspace link below.

The reverb on those tracks sounds excellent! Outboard reverb unit?

Yeah, pretty much an essential ingredient on the albums. I had one and my bandmate also had one. That's one piece of gear I'll never sell as that's one sound that is in a league of its own.

Yup, I have a Weber reverb kit that I'm working on now. My bandmates think "Your amp has reverb built in it!" But of course...I need more!

Well, it also that the Fender reverb unit overdrive the amp in a pretty unique manner. The reverb is great, but it's the overdrive potential that's killer.

Damn, that's a genuine shame.

I'll definitely be checking out the new tracks though.
