Members ej
Its so you can run so effects out front and others in the loop.
Members GCDEF
To elaborate a bit, some multi-FX units have their own loop that runs to your amp's effects loop. They'll let you select which effects run before your amp's preamp and which run in its loop. So the routing isGuitar -> MFX in. (cable 1)MFX up front effectsMFX->Send to amp input. (cable 2)Amp send -> MFX return (cable 3)MFX loop effectsMFX Output -> Amp FX return (cable 4)
Members extollo
amp needs serial loop (most likely loop) to be able to replace preamp with an mfx amp model. parallel loop will work if you are just using effects setups in your mfx chain. additional a/d and d/a can hurt tone a bit so mileage may vary. lots of people do it though.
