I still, to this day, have absolutely no idea if Klops/Joey was real

A {censored}ing savant I tell you.

I remember him drawing a picture of an explanation of how his klopps worked, and it was sort of a 5 year-old drawing on a towel, or maybe it was MS paint. Whatever, it didn't explain a damn thing and it doesn't seem like he knew what teh feck he was talking about. It was pretty sad.

At that time, his invented persona was completely different than it is now. After that, he disappeared for a bit and then came back with his current persona - the dumb guy trying to make a ridiculous product for which there is no need or market. It's an act, and it always has been. He was apparently into it enough to even buy a NAMM both. When you take trolling to that level, I would say the guy suffers from some mental disorders. Either that or he has WAYYYY to much time on his hands.

Lol.. that level of trolling takes a lot of narcissism mixed with being a plain old idiot.

You're taking it on face value. It was all part of the act

I remember talking to the guy at NAMM. He was a decent enough guy, I guess, and he obviously believed in his product 100%.....but as someone else pointed out, it's like he was trying to provide the solution to a problem that really isn't a problem.

All the stuff about phase cancellation and whatnot....that's great. And I guess could maybe see it carrying some weight and making a difference in a recording environment.

But for live use....after talking with him for 10-15 minutes, I never quite understood where he was going or where he was coming from.

Guitarists can be an pretty anal-retentive bunch, arguing about relatively petty things that have little (if any) audible effect on tone. But never have I met a guitarist complain that he was unable to achieve tonal nirvana due to the limitations of contemporary cabinet design and its inability to reproduce the true and pure tone of the speaker itself. Again....a problem that really isn't a problem.

In my career, I've played hundreds upon hundreds of live gigs in all sorts of settings, and I've run across all sorts of issues and weird situations. I like to think I've been around the block a time or two. But the stuff Joey was talking about....I never quite got where he was coming from. It was like it almost made sense....but not quite. So either he was a highly intelligent dude talking at a level that was simply beyond my comprehension....or he was combining some interesting theories with a healthy dose of BS.

Based upon my own experiences, I suspect it was probably the latter.
