I think you're on to something. If you're constantly looking for an "upgrade" or "better version" of the gear you have, then you'll always be looking. Whereas if you know what you're looking for/need/want in a guitar, but try and circumvent buying the actual item (whether it be because of cost, scarcity etc) then you're going to keep buying stuff for no reason.
