DIY Guitar Cabinet.

Have been eyeballing a set of 6 8" speakers on eBay.

had a thought about making a quad box, but when I search google, nothing of any relation really comes up.

would probably make a 4 x 8 - keeping 2 as a spare - just for a bit of fun really.

the frame itself shouldnt be a worry, will just use wood from old furniture laying around, but my question is mainly about wiring, is there a specific thing to it or just wrap them all together and send them to a jack?

any links with step by steps would be great, or if anyone has pictures of one they have made in steps it would be good.

there is a 1x12 in this section, but it doesnt really show the wiring procedure.

any help would be great

cheers

Have you ever heard of "impedance" ? It's an electrical measurement with the unit of Ohms. You have to match the impedance of the speaker cabinet to the output impedance of the amplifier you're connecting it to. This is really important if you're connecting it to a tube amplifier; it's less critical if you're connecting to a solid-state amp, but still important for good operation.

Most likely these individual speakers are 8 ohms a piece. It's probably marked on the speaker. The symbol for "ohms" is the greek letter Omega - it looks like an "upside down horse shoe". Most amplifiers' output is also 8 ohms, but check to be sure. It is almost always marked on the back of the amplifier by the speaker outputs. On some amplifiers you can switch the impedance to match, for example if you want to add another speaker cab.

If you two 8 ohm speakers in series, the total is 16 ohms. If you wire two speakers in parallel, the impedance is cut in half, 4 ohms. Assuming you have an amp with an 8 ohm output, you'd wire 2 pairs of speakers in series, then run the two pairs in parallel? Make sense? Hopefully someone will post a schmatic or picture.
