It now looks like this. I cut a shallow V around the filler pieces, used some epoxy putty, sandpaper and filler primer to finally get a smooth surface. It's been in my shop just like this for 2 months now. Temps have gone from to 20 to 80 degrees. I still can't see any lines around the filler pieces, so it's time to move to the next step. I have some red and white Duplicolor that I got close out for a total of 5 bucks. It's going to be red with white racing stripes (maybe they'll make me play faster:lol:).

I gave thought to P90's but Jazzmaster pups with a white p/g would get the look I'm after.

I need pups, p/g material and a neck. Everything else I have in my packrat stash including clear lacquer.

It's gonna be a while. No work, money's tight. But I'll resurrect this thread as parts come around.

He may just be calling the guitar that as a made up name and asking for input on his refinish color choices.

That guitar looks like a tangerine in the pic CT, is the photograph lighting or the primer? It doesnt look red. Also when you're talking about a seam, was that a Trem guitar converted back to a non trem?

That be filler primer. It does have a bit of orange tint. And yes it started life as a trem guitar. I no longer own the tele that I had just built when I first became a member here. I was made an offer I couldn't refuse. Rumor has it the new owner broke the neck and may want to get rid of it.

I did some pricing and Jmaster pups ain't cheap. I may get some Wilkenson P90's and spray some of that Fusion paint to make the covers white. Or try to match the covers with some cream colored lacquer.

I've also considered the Wilkenson P90's which I can get for 36 bucks a pair. I also have a customer that is considering an upgrade to his PRS SE. I found the P90's in that one to be really nice. He wants Lollars. OK, I'll knock 5 bucks off installation if I get his old pups.

BTW I won a neck on Evilbay today for 32 bucks with shipping. Hopefully it can be massaged into a nice neck.

I have considered the JM GFS pups. You say you've used them?

Dont know what you mean by "JM" GFS pups. I'm guessing you mean Jazz Master. If so, No I havent tried them. I dont like the sound of soap bars unless thet are original Gibsons on a Gibson guital like an old 50s~60s Jazz guitar or the likes. Half of the new ones out sound like garbage and sound pretty bad on most solid bodies. The only Generic set I have that sound good are the Mighty Mites and I have those in a Casino type build. Even there I have a pair of Mini Buckers I've bought that will fit the holes and I'll be changing those out eventually.

Here's my cheap $32 neck. I decided to keep this one on a real budget. The bridge and the pups I had in it I'll be using again as well as the mother of toilet seat p/g it came with.

Total cost involved right now with horse trading, $65.

Cost breakdown:

Body & electronics: came out of a dumpster.

Neck: $32 Ebay

Neck plate: $4 Ebay

Bridge: $15 GFS new

Red topcoat: $4 Close out @ local Autozone.

I have tuners from an upgrade I did for a friend.

The bridge pup is a GFS lil killer I paid 35 bucks for, sold for 25 and got back when the guy wanted an SD Little '59 put in it's place.

I also have primers, sealers and clear left from other projects.

I included shipping where applicable.

I got this playable today. I decided to continue with my original plan to get rid of stuff in my pack rat stash. Total investment will be $65. It actually plays OK and sounds good. It needs a bit of fret work yet, but I'll do that while paint is drying. Then I'll have a pretty nice guitar.

:facepalm: After 50+ years you'd think I'd learn! Being a cheap b@$t@*d cost me money. I had a dust coat of red on this and it remained tacky. Back down to bare wood & off to the store for some good paint.

I did use up the rest of my filler and sealer primers. That's where I'm at now.

Starting to look great, nice work.

Thanks. I'm still thinking about a new p/g and some Jazzmaster pups as I got some work for the month of Feb. Maybe even a nicer neck.

Never fails. Start a budget build and it always goes over.

Hmmm, I see a pattern here. Build a guitar out of all the parts you already have, then replace the pots, pups, neck, and body and throw the old ones back in the parts box. How many guitars do you think you can sneak past the wife before she catches on?

Unfortunately, I've been married twice and they both passed away. First one died from eating poison mushrooms. The second one died from a fractured skull. Bitch wouldn't eat the mushrooms.

SRS I'm single. But I keep doing this. I should just continue with the original plan, use up my spares and sell this one. But it's coming out sooo nice, dammit!
