Members u6crash
I recently replaced the strings on my Carvin Cobalt, and it sounds a little off when everything is tuned and I'm playing in the normal position, but it sounds way off when I play with a capo. The low e string seems to be the biggest culprit. I'm almost certain that I am using the same gauge and string brand I had on there previously. Is this a matter of me not stretching the strings correctly or just needing to break them in? I don't remember having this problem before. It seems that StewMac once had some sort of guide for intonating acoustic guitars, but I think it is just a temporary thing to use when building a new guitar. At any rate, I haven't been able to find it. Any suggestions are welcome. Thank you.
Members GN-Nick
Capos are notorious for throwing you out of tune. That's why shubb and G7 are so popular. Loosen up the tension and make sure you are capo'd behind the fret.
Members min7b5
If the same capo was working before, I'd double check the gauge of that string and or do some more stretching. Though clearly if it is a bigger string, stretching isn't gonna change that.
Members u6crash
Yeah, I don't remember having this trouble with these strings and I use the capo in that same position often. I'll try to work the strings again.
