Members kwakatak
I saw one of these at Best Buy last night for almost $60 and wondered how they compared to the SM57? I could really use an XLR mic and was also wondering if this was a good deal?

Members Terry Allan Hall
Soundwise, they're fairly similar to the SM57, but they have less gain...basically, I set the volume of one of these at "7", whereas I set the volume of a SM57 at "5", if that makes any sense. Also, I'm told that they're not as tough (in terms of roadworthiness), but so far, both of mine have held up fine (about 2 years). HTH

Members kwakatak
FWIW I would only need a new mic for home recording, so the SP57 may be better suited for my needs than the SM57. As for new/used I don't think that I would go with a used mic. That's kind of like using someone else's toothbrush IMO.
Members woody b
You'd be better off getting a condensor mic for recording.I've never really wanted a used mic either.
